Nestled in a quiet leafy corner at the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds, The Old Station Yard offers a holiday experience that is both unique and steeped in railway heritage. Whether you’re gathering for a family reunion, escaping with friends, or simply searching for peace and a touch of nostalgia, our lovingly converted station house and railway carriages provide an ideal retreat all year round.
Our accommodation consists of the historic Station Master’s House and the “Audrey, Cygnus & Ibis” carriages—each named in tribute to the legendary Orient Express. Designed for both families and romantic escapes, our carriages sleep up to 2 adults and 2 children, or can be hired together for larger groups of up to 22 people! Children and adults alike adore the magic of a stay in a real railway carriage, complete with authentic details and a gentle nod to the golden era of rail travel.
“A real haven of peace & tranquillity—every morning felt like the start of an adventure, with birdsong and the faint memory of steam in the air.”
Wake up to the gentle sounds of the countryside, step out onto the old platform, and plan your day from our sunlit picnic area or inside our bespoke barbecue hut. The grounds blend native plants, local limestone boulders, and lush Lincolnshire turf, creating a space where time slows down and everyday worries slip away. For children, our bouncy castle and cycle hire provide endless energy and laughter, while adults unwind with a book or a drink in the shade.
The former weighmaster’s office now houses a friendly cycle shop, where you’ll find bikes for all ages, from mountain bikes to fun tandems and even two Penny Farthings. Whether you’re up for a hilly ride into the Wolds or a gentle pedal along flat lanes, there’s a route (and a picnic) waiting for you.
Once a vital stop on the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway—a working heritage line—our homes still echo with the romance of steam and diesel running days. The area is a paradise for walkers, cyclists, rail enthusiasts and anyone who enjoys England’s big skies and rolling green horizons. You’re never far from the coast, fishing lakes, golf, or the charms of historic towns. Pleasure Island at Cleethorpes is just a short journey away, and the region is famed for its “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.”

Welcome to Lincolnshire—where every stay is a story in the making.
Absolutely! Our replica carriages have been lovingly converted into cozy accommodation. Each carriage has modern comforts, but retains its authentic railway spirit—down to the brass fittings and railway-style doors. You might even find yourself listening for the ghostly whistle of a night train!
Yes, and families love the adventure. Children adore the bunk beds and exploring the old station garden, while grown-ups appreciate the calm, the bookshelves, and the chance to slow down together. On rainy days, we have board games and railway puzzles—plus the world’s most forgiving station cat.
We’re proudly self-catering: each accommodation includes a kitchen with all the essentials. Many guests love picking up fresh bread from the village bakery or trying the local market’s legendary Lincolnshire sausages. There’s even an old recipe book in the station house, with scribbles from travelers past.
Only the ones in your dreams! The main line is now closed, but occasionally, a heritage locomotive or maintenance vehicle rumbles by for special events. Otherwise, the nights are quiet—just the wind, the stars, and maybe the faint echo of the old timetable bell.
Definitely! The region is well-connected, and we keep a big wall map of the UK rail network for journey planning. Some guests come with no plan at all, and end up touring the coast or even hopping over to France for a day. For French travel inspiration, we always recommend our favorite map resource: Cartes-2-France.com.
Friendly dogs are welcome in most of our accommodation (please check when booking). Our own station cat may interview them on arrival, but so far, everyone gets along.
