Great Central Railway has released a short update on BR Standard Class 2 No. 78019 which is nearing completion.
As can be seen in the photo above, Loughborough volunteers and staff have been working around the clock to prepare the locomotive for the upcoming Great Central Railway Autumn Gala, but work is still required and means that she won’t be ready for the gala.
The locomotive is nearly complete, but the new main steam lines need to be completed as well as the fitting and timing of the piston valves.
Once this is complete, painting, coating and varnishing can take place – but there is always hope that three Class 2s can still work together, even if only for a short time.
In the meantime, preparations are well underway for the Autumn Steam Gala, which will take place this weekend (from Thursday September 29 to Sunday October 2, 2022). The event sees LNER J27 No 65894 visiting the line from the NELPG / North Yorkshire Moors Railway as well as Ivatt Class 2 No 41312 using the Mid Hants Railway and the BR Derby Lightweight Railcar, ‘Iris’, visits thanks to the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway.
You can reserve tickets for the gala on the GCR website.
