If it manages to open communications in the region, including the border between Armenia and Turkey, Armenia will obtain a railway connection with Russia, Europe, Iran and China with all the economic consequences that ensue, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in an online press conference today.

“I said after the meeting in Brussels that we have reached an agreement with the President of Azerbaijan to start the construction of the Yeraskh-Julfa-Ordubad-Meghri-Horadiz railway, and a working group has already been set up for this purpose,” he said. noted.

Prime Minister Pashinyan noted that the construction of the sections crossing Armenia is estimated at 200 million dollars and 5 million dollars, noting that “it is not a very heavy burden for the Republic of Armenia, especially more than a number of international donors are showing great interest. ”

It is quite possible that there is no need to invest funds from the Armenian state budget, because we still need to know what the South Caucasus Railways, Russian Railways think about it , said the Prime Minister.

“There are also European companies that are interested and ready to invest and operate the railway,” he added.

He noted that the preparatory work for the constriction of this railway has practically begun.

“If it manages to open communications in the region, including the Armenia-Turkey border, Armenia will get a railway connection with Russia, Europe, Iran, China with all the economic consequences arising from it,” Nikol Pashinyan said.

“That’s what we mean by talking about a peace program,” he added.

“When we talk about open communications, we focus on the connection between Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Although this is a sensitive issue, it is not the most important. In the end, these are huge transit flows for Armenia and Azerbaijan,” noted the Armenian Prime Minister.

He pointed out that the opening of communications will attract huge transit flows from the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea, from Europe, Turkey and the Middle East to Russia, which, in turn, will ensure d huge revenues to Armenia and Azerbaijan.
