El Paso Locomotive adds England midfielder Emmanuel Sonupe for 2022 roster

El Paso Locomotive FC signed Midfielder Emmanuel Sonupé for the 2022 roster, awaiting league and federation approval, the club announced today. Sonupe is the first new player added to Locomotive’s roster as the team prepares for its fourth season of the USL Championship.

Sonupe, 25, joins El Paso Locomotive FC from the prestigious English football system. Sonupe started his youth career in the Tottenham Hotspur Academy in the English Premier League, playing three seasons in the Academy from 2012 to 2014. At the end of his career at the Academy, Sonupe signed full-time with the Hotspurs, before being on loan with St Mirren FC in the Scottish Premiership, making four appearances. In 2016, the London native joined Northampton Town in the EFL League One making an appearance before going on loan and ultimately signing full-time with Kidderminster Harriers where he made 41 appearances and 11 goals in two seasons.

After his stint with the Harriers, Sonupe joined Stevenage for two seasons, making 41 appearances and four goals. For the 2020-21 season, Sonupe took his talents to Yeovil Town where he scored two goals in 15 appearances until recently making seven appearances for Dartford FC. In addition to his long young career with English clubs, Sonupe won three caps with England U-16s and U-18s, scoring a goal with the older team.

As the first new player in the Locomotive roster, Sonupe brings a tremendous amount of speed and creativity to the midfield while adding breadth to the Locomotive system as a right winger.
